Description:
Presented by Winter Wildlands Alliance, the annual Backcountry Film Festival celebrates the power and spirit of humans in winter. Out of 100+ films submitted, the Backcountry Film Festival film selection committee has chosen this year’s very best stories of backcountry adventure and snow cinema by human-powered athletes, brands, activists and adventurers.
This year’s lineup brings together an inspiring mix of stories that highlight the many ways people connect with wild, snowy landscapes. From heartfelt journeys of love and friendship to bold explorations in remote corners of the world, the films capture the joy, humor, and resilience that define life in the backcountry. Audiences will be transported from the rugged peaks of Alaska to the rolling green mountains of Vermont, from the avalanche terrain of Montana to the icy expanses of Antarctica. Along the way, they’ll encounter skiers, riders, and conservationists whose passion for winter fuels both adventure and advocacy.
The festival is more than just a showcase of adrenaline and powder shots—it’s a celebration of community, creativity, and stewardship. These films remind us that winter is not only a season but a shared experience, one that calls us to protect the places we love while finding joy in the challenges they present. Whether it’s redefining access, weaving art and science together, or simply chasing turns with friends, the stories on screen reflect the diverse and vibrant culture of human-powered winter recreation.
Join Wild Montana and Winter Wildlands Alliance at the Wilma Theater in Missoula for an unforgettable evening of cinematic adventure. Come for the films, stay for the stoke, and leave inspired to embrace winter in all its wild beauty.
