Description:
The figure may seem like a complex subject, and if taken at face value it is. There is too much information to navigate. but by analyzing, interpreting and simplifying our subject, the figure becomes much more manageable. In this class we will discuss how to capture motion with gesture drawing and how to navigate the landmarks of the figure to construct the body out of basic forms.
Not only will this approach allow you to draw from the model, it will also teach you to draw the figure from imagination confidently. There is little value in rendering what we see without a knowledge of the underlying structure. In this class we won’t use sight-size drawing or optical tricks, but we will learn in a simplified way the same methods used by the French Academic artists of the 19th century.
This approach is used by concept artists in the film and animation industries and illustrators to understand and eventually exaggerate their designs into characters.
Classes will be held on Tuesdays.
