Description:
The Missoula Art Museum presents 47 vibrant, layered works by a prolific Missoula-based artist in Cid Wolstein: New Work.
Wolstein uses materials that she has carefully collected over many years to create color-driven paintings that sometimes include text fragments, numerals, and evidence of multiple layers in highly controlled and curated compositions that celebrate the power of color relationships. Wolstein selects and treats frames to contribute to each artwork just as carefully.
Wolstein has collected the paints she uses, including mismatches, for decades, and she assigns each color a name that resonates for her. The artist finds color combinations in the world around her to bring back to new studies. She frequently works in series and uses stencils and templates as “color containers.”
