Discover the rich history of northwest Montana at the Heritage Museum in Libby. Housed in a distinctive 12-sided log building listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the museum showcases artifacts and exhibits on the region’s early industries, including mining, logging and the railroad. Highlights include the historic “Ole Four Spot” Shay locomotive, the Cherry Creek Custom Mill, Forest Service displays, and a powerful exhibit on the W.R. Grace vermiculite mine and asbestos contamination. Visitors can explore indoor and outdoor exhibits, view personal video interviews, and learn about the area’s Indigenous history and settlement stories.
