The Miracle of America Museum is often touted as the "Smithsonian of the West," and for good reason. In just over 35 years, it has grown to be the largest and most diversified museum in Montana. Travel agencies rate it the No. 2 reason to come to Polson, topped only by the natural beauty of Flathead Lake.
Historically accurate exhibits use artifacts symbolically to trace human history from primitive times through the walking plow to walking on the moon. Veteran appreciation is enhanced by viewing literally thousands of pieces of military collectibles, including more than 30 military vehicles, two jet airplanes and four other aircraft. America's freedom of travel is represented by more than 70 vintage motorcycles dating back to a 1912 Harley Davidson.
The village outside the main building comprises more than 40 structures. Each structure has its own theme, like beauty and sewing shops, blacksmithing and auto shops, and a 1912 one-room schoolhouse complete with a three-hole outhouse and teacherage. Kid-friendly and interactive exhibits are scattered throughout the 4.5-acre complex.
