Where:
Northwest Montana History Museum
124 Second Avenue East Kalispell, Montana
Description:
May’s Movie Night at the Museum will feature the 1955 American Musical “Guys and Dolls” starring Frank Sinatra, Jean Simmons, Marlon Brando and Vivian Blaine. The film will be shown on Tuesday, May 27 at 7 pm in the Northwest Montana History Museum.
For method actor Brando, the film was a departure from his usual dramatic roles as he sang his own songs in his first and only musical. Brando portrayed Sky Masterson, a gambler who is willing to bet on just about anything. He takes missionary Sister Sarah Brown to Havana as a ploy to finance a craps game run by Nathan Detroit (Sinatra) and, as in most 50’s musicals, ends up falling in love.
The film was both a box office and critical hit with four Oscar nominations and two Golden Globes: Best Comedy/Musical Film and Best Comedy/Musical Actress for Simmons.
Doors open at 6:30 pm. Admission and popcorn are free. Soda pop, water, beer and wine are available for purchase. Seating is provided, but viewers are welcome to bring their own cushions or seating.
Celebrating its 25-year anniversary, the Northwest Montana History Museum brings the past alive through exhibits, artifacts, educational programs and events. The Museum is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at 124 Second Avenue East, Kalispell. For information call 406-756-8381.
