Join MUD in collaboration with the Missoula County Fairgrounds and Blue Mountain Flowers for this 3 part Chicken Series!

Session 1: Egg to Coop, led by Poultry Specialists Laura DeNitto and Kristin Whisennand, will cover everything you need to know to raise your chicks including: sourcing chicks, brooder boxes, feed, and common problems to be aware of.

In Session 2: The Scoop on the Coop, participants will visit Blue Mountain Flowers to check out a newly built coop. We’ll cover the necessary components of a coop, discuss possible coop designs, and enjoy a presentation from James Jonkel of FWP on how to protect your chickens in bear country.

This series will finish with Session 3: Keeping Up with the Flock. In this workshop we’ll cover general aspects to maintaining your flock such as common issues, diseases, upkeep, and keeping your chickens happy and healthy for the long term. We’ll also discuss gardening with your chickens and the nutrients their manure can bring to your soil.
