The alpine town of Whitefish
began in the late 1800's as a fur trading center.
Then in the early 1900's, railroad workers cut
the first trees for the Whitefish town site,
hence the name "Stumptown." Whitefish
later flourished with both the logging industry
and the Great Northern Railway, and today retains
much of the charm and charisma of its early
days. Whitefish is the ultimate four-season
vacation spot. A full range of winter activities
including skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling,
or just a pleasant conversation around a cozy
fire awaits visitors. Summer offers endless
outdoor activities such as hiking, mountain
biking, horseback riding, boating and fishing.
During fall and spring the pace slows down a
bit providing a great opportunity to soak up
the natural beauty of the area. Visit and "Let
Whitefish Embrace You."
